Cursor vs Claude Code: which should you use?

Last updated:

Short answer: pick Cursor if you want to stay in a visual editor and watch every change. Pick Claude Code if you are happy in a terminal and want an agent to carry a long, multi-file task with less hand-holding. Plenty of developers run both: Claude Code inside Cursor's built-in terminal.

Cost reality check

For a solo developer, Cursor Premium ($30) and Claude Pro ($20) are the realistic entry points for serious daily use. Heavy agent users on either side tend to end up on a $100 to $200 plan or on metered API billing. Both vendors change plans often, so check the live pricing pages before you buy.
